Cabinet for electromyoneurography

Electromyoneurography (EMNG) is a diagnostic method aimed at examining motor neuron, nerve roots, plexus, peripheral nerves, neurological junctions and muscles.

The examination is based on peripheral nerve stimulation using electric current and recording of action potentials of a muscle innervated by the studied nerve (electroneurography), as well as recording of electric activity of the muscles using a needle electrode inserted into the muscle (electromyography), which makes the procedure painful and unpleasant, however most of the patients are capable to endure the examination. EMNG examination lasts 30 to 90 minutes, depending on number of tested nerves and muscles and each patient is subjected to different set of tests dependent on referral diagnosis and obtained findings.

The patient should present to the examination clean, free of any cosmetic preparations applied on the skin. It is recommended to the patient to be examined not to present hungry as well as to take before the examination his/her usual therapy. Only patients with myasthenia gravis undergoing Mestenin treatment should discontinue the drug 12 h before the examination.

EMNG room within the Neurology clinic, CCS examines exclusively the patients undergoing actual in-patient treatment at CCS and the examination may be ordered solely by a neurologist from the Neurology clinic if indicated for the purpose of diagnosis of the ongoing complaints for which the patient is hospitalized. If the examination is ordered by a neurologist, the appointment should be made by phone at  011/2685-295 and the patient should bring to the examination history of the disease, internal letter of referral and valid neurological findings

EMNG examinations are performed by Dr. Ana Nikolić, Ass. dr Aleksandra Kačar and Dr. Ivan Marjanović,  with assistance of D. Turčinov (head nurse) and S. Basara. , Senior Registered Nurses.
