Department of epilepsies provides medical services to patients suffering from epilepsy. Our department offers contemporary medical treatment to adult patients with epilepsy in order to achieve full control of the seizures and optimization of their quality of life. Evaluation of patients at the Department of epilepsy includes detailed neurophysiological and neuroradiological examinations up to the most up-to-date epileptological standards. We are doing our best to make clinical assessment of patients as perfect as possible as well as to develop and improve additional diagnostic methods in all segments in which they may be beneficial for the patients.

Our department has advanced diagnostic tests for diagnosis, classification of seizures and evaluation of the candidates for surgical treatment of epilepsy. The Unit for long-term video-EEG monitoring combines imaging and synchronized EEG recording in patients with pharmacoresistent epilepsy aimed at determining type, number and localization of the epileptic seizures. The results of video-EEG monitoring are supported by other diagnostic procedures, including magnetic resonance imaging of the head, neuropsychological tests and SPECT (in the course and between the seizures). The collected data is analyzed by a multidisciplinary team composed of a neurologist –epileptologist, neurosurgeon, neuroradiologist, neurophysiologist, specialist in nuclear medicine and EEG technician. Each patient in whom control of the seizures is not established by administration of antiepileptic drugs is a potential candidate for this type of diagnostic evaluation.

Patients are referred to our department through specialist outpatient polyclinic service within Clinical Center of Serbia (Dr. Đorđević – working days; Prof.  Sokić (outpatient examinations within the Institute of Neurology) – Wednesdays  from 12 noon till 4 p.m.; Dr. Ristić, Dr. Janković and Dr. Vojvodić  - Fridays from 12 noon till 4 p.m.).
