Lectures delivered by world leading experts

During the previous period, The Neurology clinic was honored to be a host of large number of eminent world experts within an attempt to keep the pace with contemporary concepts in both scientific research and treatment of patients.

Gostovanje dr Najib Kalife:

Dr Najib Kalife (Belgija) je 22. novembra 2011. godine na Klinici za neurologiju KCS održao predavanje pod nazivom „Renewes guidelines for therapeutic plasmapheresis in neurology patients“.

Gostovanje Prof Philippe Kahane:

Gostovanje Prof Philippe Kahane:

Gostovanje Dr. Andreas Schulze-Bonhage i Doc. Dr. Christian Bien:

Prof. Dr. Andreas Schulze-Bonhage (Neurozentrum der Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Sektion Epileptologie, Freiburg, Nemačka) tom prilikom održao je predavanja pod nazivima: “Semiology of temporal lobe seizures”, “Memory function and memory deficit in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy (inculding memory outcome and rehabilitation possibilities after temporal lobe resection)” i “Epileptogenic temporal lobe lesions: MRI and histopathology“, a Doc. Dr. Christian Bien (Universitätsklinik für Epileptologie, Bonn, Nemačka) predavanja sa sledećim naslovima: “Surface and intracranial EEG in temporal lobe epilepsy” i “Presurgical evaluation and surgical epilepsy therapy in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy: illustrative examples”.

Gostovanje Dr Hubertus Lohmann:

Tokom svog boravka u Beogradu održao je dva predavanja: „Functional transcranial Doppler Sonography (fTCD): From research to clinical practice“, „Assessing feigned cognitive impairment: Relevance for clinical and forensic neuropsychology“.

Gostovanje Prof. Eugen Trinka I Dr Martin Ortler:

Pored ostalih aktivnosti, uvaženi gosti i dragi prijatelji održali su dva predavanja, u slušaonici Klinike za neurologiju i svečanoj sali dekanata Medicinskog fakulteta u Beogradu: Doc. dr Eugen Trinka: Presurgical Evaluation of Patients with Epilepsy - Basic Principles and Practical Considerations, Ass. Dr Martin Ortler: Methods in Epilepsy Surgery (14. 10. 2008.) i Doc. Dr Eugen Trinka: Long term prognosis and outcomes after epilepsy surgery, Ass. Dr Martin Ortler: Special Problems in temporal Surgery (15.10. 2008.).

Gostovanje Prof. dr Walter Van Emde Boass:

Prof. Dr. Walter Van Emde Boass, Professor of Neurology at the Heemstede Institute of Epileptology in Netherlands visited the Neurology clinic in Belgrade in the period August 5th, 2008 – August 11th, 2008.
Professor Walter Van Emde Boass is a doyen of epileptology who participated, as a member of Special Boards within the International League Against Epilepsy, in designing of contemporary concepts of epileptology, starting from the new up-to-dated definition of the epileptic seizure and epilepsy, classification of types of epileptic seizures and epileptic syndromes, defining of the specificity and significance of interictal and ictal EEG patterns all the way to therapeutic strategies dependent on the patient’s condition and needs.
Prof. Walter Van Emde Boass’s contribution in defining of place of surgical treatment of epilepsy patients is great as well as his role in development of the concept of significance of clinical semiology of the seizures and its correlation with location of the extra and intracranial EEG with specific localizations visualized on magnetic resonance brain images and pathological findings in the surgically treated patients.
Prof. Walter Van Emde Boass agreed to spend a week with the team from the Department of Epilepsy, Institute of Neurology in Belgrade on analyzing ictal video EEG recordings and other findings obtained in patients considered to be subjected to surgical treatment of their epilepsy.
In the course of his stay, Professor Walter Van Emde Boass also delivered 2 lectures at the Institute of Neurology Lecture Hall: 1. Use and misuse of EEG and 2. Indications for special studies in epileptology.

Gostovanje Prof. Dr Anthony Marson:

Prof. Dr. Anthony Marson from “Walton Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery” in Liverpool, Great Britain, visited the Neurology clinic and Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade in the period June 25-26, 2008.
Prof. Anthony Marson is the most acclaimed researcher in the field of neurology and epileptology. He is the Head of Epileptology Group within the project “Cochrane review” and author of more than 20 clinical meta-analyses of the randomized studies within “Cochrane Review in Epilepsy". He is the author of numerous papers published in Lancet, British Medical Journal, Annals of Neurology, Neurology, Epilepsy, Clinical Trials, etc.
Prof. Anthony Marson, together with Prof. David Chadwick carried out the MESS study, which has remained the largest randomized study in the field of epileptology based on which conclusions and generally accepted recommendations were made on the criteria related to introduction of antiepileptics after the first or several initial epileptic seizures. He also carried out SANAD study that was organized independently of the pharmaceutical industry on 3,000 patients and aimed at comparison of efficacy and tolerance of the classic and more recently developed antiepileptics in patients with newly diagnosed epilepsy. Based on SANAD study, it was concluded that optimal drug for initial treatment of focal epilepsies is lamotrigine as well as that it was advantageous over other standard drugs at the time carbamazepine, while valproate has remained the basic drug for initial treatment of generalized epilepsies with the possibility of its subsequent replacement or combination with topiramate. Both studies were turning points in the field of epileptology, after which the attitudes were defined and clear recommendations related to practical work were adopted.
Prof. Anthony Marson delivered on June 26th, 2008 in the administrative building of the Faculty of Medicine the inauguration lecture "STANDARD VERSUS NEW ANTIEPILEPTIC DRUGS FOR NEWLY DIAGNOSED EPILEPSY” on the occasion of his awarding the title of  ”Visiting Professor“ at the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade.
