Dr Marina Svetel is employed at the position of the medical specialist at the Department of Movement Disorders and Degenerative Brain Diseases at the Clinic of Neurology. She has been working at the Clinic of Neurology since 1985. Dr Svetel completed internship in neurology at the School of Medicine in Belgrade, in the period from 1986-1989. and consequently passed specialization examination. She has been working at the School of Medicine of the University in Belgrade since 1996; since 2009- present, dr Marina Svetel holds the position of an Associate Professor. In 1989. she defended her Master Thesis, titled “Adverse Effects of Anticancer Therapy Affecting Brain”, elaborated under the mentorship of Professor Zvonimir Lević; in 1994. she defended her Doctoral Thesis, titled: “Population-Based Genetic Study of Focal Dystonia” elaborated under the mentorship of Academician, Prof. Vladimir Kostić.
Dr Marina Svetel graduated from the School of Medicine in Belgrade in 1982, with CGPA 9.77 in the course of her Studies. She participated and collaborated in the projects of basic research activities, guided under the supervision of Academician, Prof Vladimir S. Kostić, in the period from 2000-2006 (Project file number 101988), followed by further collaboration (project file number 145057) in the period from 2006-2010. in the project of the Ministry for Science and Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia.

Dystonia, Wilson’s disease, some other movement disorder-related diseases, Parkinson disease and other degenerative disorders of the central nervous system make the subject of Dr Svetel’s interest within the field of her clinical engagement. Part of her professional engagement is at the Center for Botuline Toxin Application in Neurology. Her scientific-research activities include the field of clinical-genetic, epidemiologic, electrophysiological and radiological specificities of degenerative disorders of central nervous system.
Dr Svetel was awarded the annual prize in recognition for her scientific-research activities performed at the School of Medicine in Belgrade in 2004/2005.
She is the member of the Serbian Medical Association and European Neurological Society.
