Dragana Lavrnić was born 1957 in Belgrade. She enrolled into the Medical faculty University of Belgrade in the school year 1976/77 and graduated 1982 with GPA 9.87. From 1984 she has been employed at the Clinic of Neurology CCS, the Department of neuromuscular diseases and disorders of the spinal cord with special interest in diseases of the neuromuscular junction. Since May 2007 she is working as the head of the department for neuromuscular diseases and spinal cord diseases. In 1991 she was elected into the position of assistant professor of neurology in University of Belgrade. She is associate professor from 2005. The specialist exam in neurology passed with excellent grade 1989. The postgraduate studies in neurology enrolled in 1982 and ended with master thesis entitled „Evaluation of treatment in patients with myasthenia gravis“ 1987 at the Medical Faculty in Belgrade. The PhD thesis entitled „Clinical and epidemiological study of myasthenia gravis“was done in the 1995 at the Medical Faculty in Belgrade. She has published 294 scientific papers, she is a co-author of the textbook in neurology for medical students, wrote 25 chapters of textbooks and monographs. She participated in several projects of Ministry of Science: Neuromuscular disorders- clinical, endocrinological, immunological, metabolic, electrophysiological, hystochemical and electromicroscopic investigations, since 1986; Research on Immune Mediated Diseases of peripheral nervous system since 1996. The correlation of clinical findings with laboratory markers of inflammation, myelin and axonal damage in multiple sclerosis and Guillain-Barre syndrome since 2001. Since 2005:” Quality of life in chronic neurological disorders: overall assessment the effects of the disease”. Now she is participating in two projects of Ministry of Science: “Research on molecular-genetic, patohystological and biochemical characteristics of neuromuscular diseases”, and “Comparative analysis of clinical features and biomarkers to predict disease evaluation in multiple sclerosis and other immune-mediated disorders”.
